Interviewing Models to Enhance Engagement

Solution focus tenets are at the heart of best practice when engaging families. The worker needs to approach the interview in a thoughtful and prepared way. It makes the client the expert in their life; ethnographic interviewing is the driver of these methods.  Using culturally appropriate and multicultural methods in the interview is central to this learning.  The core model addressed will be solution-focused methods. Participants will learn by way of lecture, small group activities, role-plays and examples in the media.

1.  Learner will demonstrate how to prepare for an interview.

2.  Learner will know how to apply ethnographic interviewing concepts and techniques to maximize their client engagement

3.  Learner will know how to apply motivational interviewing concepts to help motivate a client to change

4.  Learner will know how to apply multicultural interviewing concepts to effectively engage with clients regardless of their cultural background.

5.  Learner will understand the basic tenets of solution focused therapy (Casework)Learning will begin to develop an understanding of the origin.

 

Presenter: David Zidar, L.I.S.W.-S., has been working in child welfare since 1982 as an administrator, trainer, and therapist. He worked in the Cleveland area for about 16 years. He was Vice President for residential services in Kentucky. He has also worked in public agencies at the executive level. Currently, he is an independent trainer and therapist throughout the country. Dave has a BSW from Capital University, a MSSA from Case Western Reserve and a certification in Juvenile Sex Offender Treatment from the University of Louisville. He is the recipient of the 2009 “Linda Pope Award” as the OCWTP Trainer of the Year.

This program is offered for 6.0 clock hours of continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Training Center is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association MCE program to offer continuing education for Ohio psychologists. This program is offered for 6.0 clock hours of continuing education for psychologists. Child Focus, Inc., 00PD-3109-52668, maintains responsibility for the program.                                                                                                                           Professional Development Hours for Teachers: A statement of contact hour verification will be provided, which educators in turn provide to their Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). Ohio Revised Code (Section 3319.22) assigns LPDCs the responsibility of reviewing educators’ Professional Development activities as part of their Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDP) and determining if they meet licensure renewal requirements.                                                                                                             CE educational activities that meet the continuing education requirement for the Ohio Board of Nursing: A certificate of attendance verification will be provided with the CE activity hours. Chapter 4723-14-05 from the law and rules from www.nursing.ohiogov reads: (7) A continuing education activity that has been approved by a board or an agency that regulates a health care profession or related discipline in Ohio or another jurisdiction;

Cancellation Policy: The Training Center must be notified 7 days prior to a training via telephone, fax or email in order to cancel a registration and receive a full refund. If notification is not received prior to 7 days, a $20.00 processing fee will be charged.
