Celebrando el Año de la Vida Consagrada

Esposas de Cristo, Hijas de la Iglesia:                                Un encuentro formativo para religiosas 

 Durante el Año de la Vida Consagrada, el Papa Francisco nos invita a reflexionar sobre el don de nuestra vocación a través de encuentros de oración y formación religiosa.

El Consejo de Superioras Mayores de Religiosas (CMSWR) extiende una invitación a religiosas profesas a participar en un programa de formación y oración en español.

El curso de verano “Esposas de Cristo, Hijas de la Iglesia” ofrece a las religiosas de habla hispana la oportunidad de celebrar el Año de la Vida Consagrada, estudiando juntas a los Padres de la Iglesia: la vida de los más destacados, el tiempo en que les tocó vivir, y los escritos más importantes. Únase con nosotras en seguir de nuevo la llamada del Concilio Vaticano II a todos los religiosos: “de procurar [de] ir perfeccionando cuidadosamente a lo largo de toda su vida esta cultura espiritual, doctrinal y técnica (PC, 18).”

Que estos textos valiosos de nuestro patrimonio Católico nos ayuden a crecer en la comunión eclesial al igual que en la comunión entre nosotras, religiosas sirviendo a Cristo y Su Iglesia en los Estados Unidos de América.

Facilitator:  Sister Maria Theotókos Adams, SSVM

  Sister Maria Theotókos Adams, SSVM holds a B.A. in Ancient Studies from Columbia University in New York and has also studied in Jerusalem at the École Biblique and at Hebrew University.  As a religious sister in the Institute of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará since 2001, she has served for the past ten years in the house of studies teaching classes and overseeing the academic and cultural program for the younger missionary sisters in formation.  She is also active in the New Evangelization as editor for the newsletter and the sisters’ videos, as well as serving as the main contributor for the community website.  Currently, Sister Theotókos is completing a Master’s degree at The Catholic University of America in Church History, where her academic focus is the theology and expressions of evangelization of culture in the Anglo-Saxon Church of the Seventh and Eighth Centuries, with the particular focus on the Venerable Bede and his reception of Augustine.

Facilitator: Sister Mary Ann Spanjers, OSF

Sister Mary Ann Spanjers, OSF, has been a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity for over 30 years. She has taught elementary, secondary and college students in Catholic Schools and Colleges in the United States and Peru. She was on the founding team of the Discipulos de Cristo Hispanic Lay Formation program for the Diocese of Green Bay. Sister served as Vocation Director for her community for seven years and coordinated the RCIA for St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc. She has a Master’s Degree in Theology and Religious Studies from St. John’s University, NYC as well as post graduate work at St. Bonaventure Univ., NY; Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; and Boston College.  Sister recently ministered with Catholic Charities in McAllen, TX and Tucson, AZ serving the immigrants and refugees coming from Central America. Sister Mary Ann is an adjunct of Theology and Liberal Arts at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, instructor for the Emmaus, the Discipulos and Apostoles programs and helped with Hispanic outreach for the Diocese of Green Bay, WI.   She has facilitated retreats and workshops for college and university students; gives workshops to various adult groups in Spanish and English as well as initiated and coordinated the Spanish Mass outreach for St. Thomas/St. Francis of Assisi Parishes, Manitowoc, WI. 

Facilitator: Sister Teresa Gomez, HMSS

 Sister Teresa Gomez, HMSS has been a Mercedarian Sister of the Blessed Sacrament for fifty one years. Presently she is serving as the superior at their convent in San Antonio, Texas For the last five years she has been serving the diocese doing apostolic work in a number of areas including being a member of the Vocation Committee giving vocational conferences at various levels (parishes, youth groups, schools, Life Awareness, Miriam Dinner and Ministry conferences for Virgen de Guadalupe Radio).  She worked part time as DRE at St. Alphonsus Parsh in San Antonio and was a member of the Deanery committee working on a program for Quinceaneras and its guidelines. Sister Teresa gave weekly radio talks on Virgen de Guadalupe Radio 1380 AM – interviewing different Religious Communities and their charisma/Spirituality.  She is a member of the Core Team for the Year of Consecrated Life in the Archdiocese, a member of the committee for Hispanic Sisters, and a member of the National Association of Hispanic Sisters, all in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.  Sister is also a team member of the NRVC working on a Project for Hispanic Sisters in formation for Vocation Leaders that will take place this Summer in California and she is an instructor for Level I, Catechetical Certificate for the Archdiocese of San Antonio (for Spanish speaking).Sister Teresa was stationed in Barstow, California and San Diego California before coming to San Antonio.  While there she worked for eighteen years in the Diocese of San Bernardino as the Director for Hispanic Ministry and for four of those years was also the vicar for Hispanic Affairs in the diocese.
