This presentation engages the students' minds, bodies and senses as we discuss growing and eating seasonal fruits and vegetables. This lesson includes an active game where students learn about what fruits and vegetables grow in Kansas. A local farmer or gardener guest shares how they grow their crops, illustrated wtih pictures. A read aloud book discusses mindful eating, followed by a local food tasting/sampling activity where the children use descriptive words to mindfully sample seasonal produce items.
This lesson is presented by Sedgwick County Master Gardener volunteers, during the months of September through November only. Requests for this lesson are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and depend on the availability of the volunteers. Reqistration for this lesson must be received 3 weeks in advance of the requested date for the class.
