NHSTA In-Service Training Program - Handling Emergency Situations

All N.H. school bus drivers and instructors are invited to take part in a special program concerning the handling of emergency situations including accidents, planned and unexpected events with potential for impacting a school bus.

This four (4) hour in-service training program will begin with an update from Trooper Christopher Kelby.  After a break, we will turn things over to trainers J. Scott Nichols and Scott Lambertson of the NH Dept. of Safety and the Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management for a school driver training program which will address:  Basic Incident Command Systems (ICS) concepts; S4…See Something, Say Something and CRASE-Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events.  The presentation will address who is “in command” and where your responsibilities begin and end in a given situation. They will cover situations that can arise during planned events (sporting events, school assemblies, festivals, etc.) as well as steps for handling unexpected schoolbus related. The proper “reporting” protocols will also be a focus of the presentation. They will address concepts and procedures related to school bus accidents and other kinds of incidents that you could encounter while out on your routes or in the schoolyard.

Regardless of your fleet or school district’s existing policies for handling an emergency situation, this training will  provide valuable information for you as a driver or as an instructor.
