According to current research, it takes 10,000 Hours of directed practice (constantly pushing yourself and training at the edge of your abilities) to become an expert at something. What does it feel like to consciously pursue mastery? What is an expert? What changes about us when we acquire new skills? Unlike any time before, the resources available to us are astounding; pursuing knowledge and self-directed skill development is just a few clicks away. But, even so, being at the edge of our abilities is uncomfortable. How can we push ourselves towards mastery without going crazy? What do games and puzzles have to do with learning anyway? How does a primal instinct interfere with learning state of the art technology and, better yet, how can I make it stop?
This workshop will examine ways to best make use of the resources readily available to support you in your journey towards mastery, look at some of the basic biology behind learning, get tips and tricks to overcome the roadblocks, and talk about what it means to take on the mastery mindset of a "life of learning."
