BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME
How To Treat? Demystifying Burning Mouth Syndrome
This collaboration will present current research into the cause of burning mouth syndrome; a condition that tends to be commonest in late middle age, predominantly in post-menopausal females. The symptoms comprise a constant burning or scalding sensation which typically worsen during the day to a crescendo in late afternoon. The condition, if untreated may last for years. Its severity leads commonly to reactive depression, which may even produce suicidal tendencies. It is now realized that the syndrome may disappear as mysteriously as it appears after several years; though this cannot be relied upon. Prompt diagnosis and initiation of effective treatment is therefore vital.
