  • All too often, small business owners approach marketing as a collection of disjointed events.  This causes them to spend their time like a pinball bouncing from one trendy topic to another, all the while wondering why their marketing isn’t working.  This talk starts with an overview of the “7 Steps for Small Business Marketing Success” as outlined by best-selling author John Jantsch in his book Duct Tape Marketing.  It then focuses on the first 3 steps, which are the crucial steps to get right before diving into tactics.  The talk closes with a brief overview of some of the more interesting tactics and how they can be used to support your marketing strategy.

Short Bio:  Jeff Stec, Principal at Tylerica Systems, LLC, is an experienced problem-solver, manager, innovator, educator, consultant, former corporate wonk, small-business owner, and entrepreneur. Jeff started his career in the high-tech world at Bell Laboratories/AT&T Information Systems when the internet was in its infancy and cell phones were still being developed. His career arc took him to IBM where he was a microprocessor designer, then to Synopsys, a maker of software to automate the semiconductor design process. It was this latter position where Jeff gained Consulting, Sales, and Management experience.

In 2003, Jeff left the high-tech world behind and moved into the relatively low-tech world of house painting. Through owning and operating a Southern Painting franchise, Jeff learned what it takes to operate as a small business owner who “wears all the hats”. One of those hats was Chief Marketing Officer and in that capacity, Jeff brought into play many marketing concepts that were currently foreign to the house painting business.

In 2012, Jeff merged his consulting background with his small business ownership experience, dusted off the Tylerica Systems, LLC business that he had formed several years before, and redirected it toward Marketing Consulting for small business. Jeff is a part of the Duct Tape Marketing Consultant Network, and he is also a Constant Contact Authorized Local Expert. His current focus is to help small business owners accelerate their growth and profitability by focusing on marketing as a system, not en event.
