“Reflections in the Sand: Use of Reflective Supervision in the Sand”
presented by Norma Bonet, LCSW, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor
9:30am - 12:30pm

Reflective supervision is an approach that supports various models of relationship-based service delivery. The approach includes regular meetings, a collaborative relational approach, and an emphasis on reflection. Reflective supervision can be used across disciplines, systems of care and service models for children and families.” - Heffron and Murch, 2010

I have found that Reflective Supervision puts us all in touch with the critical perspective of what we experience with our client and supervisee population. It helps us all see the counter-transference we may be experiencing. Ultimately, reflective supervision seeks to improve the quality of care for clients through reflection, collaboration and understanding. The use of Sandtray and miniatures seems to help facilitate this process. This three hour workshop will try to provide some basic knowledge of how to playfully implement reflective supervision in the sand. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to: 1. Define reflective supervision 2. Incorporate sandtray process in reflective supervision. 3. Develop reflective questions to use during play therapy supervisory sessions. 4. Use skills for play therapy case supervision.

"Introduction to StoryPlay®: Strengthening Resiliency in Children through Indirective Therapeutic Metaphors' presented by Janet A. Courtney, PhD., LCSW, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor
3:00pm - 6:00pm

StoryPlay® is a multi-cultural, resiliency-based, indirective Play Therapy model that draws upon the natural inner resources, skills, and strengths of each child, adolescent, adult or family member to generate healing, growth, and change. StoryPlay® Therapy is founded upon the principles of Milton H. Erickson, Indigenous teachings, and the innovative approaches of healer and therapist Dr. Joyce Mills. This workshop will introduce participants to the basic building blocks of storytelling metaphors for children and adolescents including using real life metaphors and made-up therapeutic stories. Participants will also learn how metaphoric Kinesthetic Storytelling™ can be adapted in play therapy sessions to enhance the parent-child relationship.  Experiential activities will be included. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The participant will be able to: 1. Define three essential elements of the StoryPlay® play therapy model. 2. Utilize two core principles of Ericksonian metaphorical methods to facilitate positive change through the use of Storycrafts. 3. Describe how Kinesthetic Storytelling™ can be adapted to the play therapy setting.
