State of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace:
From #MeToo to New Legislation – Protect Yourself

Stories of sexual harassment in the workplace and the #MeToo movement have dominated the news cycle for nearly a year. State and local governments have responded and require employers to take action. New York State is in the process of finalizing its guidance on the mandated sexual harassment prevention policy and training program with which every employer in the State must comply under the State’s Combating Sexual Harassment in the Workplace initiatives. The initial guidance from the State provides that (among other things) employers must:
- Complete sexual harassment training for all of its employees (management and non-management) by the end of 2018
- Provide annual training thereafter
- Train all newly hired employees on sexual harassment prevention within their first 30 days of employment
This presentation will discuss the risks associated with sexual harassment claims, ways to prevent claims, summaries of the updated legislation and compliance steps employers now need to take, and the proper coverage to protect you.
