Session Topic
Case Studies in Private Equity and the Role of the CFO

Summary & Learning Objectives
This professional development session will review a couple of recent private equity investments in lower middle market companies (defined as companies having annual sales of $25 - $300 million). The case studies will walk through the early stages of a transaction including a review of the state of the business at acquisition, the acquisition financing and its financial profile, all the way through the key accomplishments during the course of ownership and final exit. The role of the CFO in each of the transactions will be highlighted with suggestions for those who are contemplating a financial leadership position in a private equity-owned company.

Attendees will learn about the life cycle of a typical private equity investment including: i) what a private equity firm looks for during the due diligence process; (ii) why a seller may be considering a sale to a private equity firm; (iii) what are the key components of a typical investment thesis; (iv) description of specific accomplishments to execute an investment thesis; and (v) final outcome and financial opportunity of the management team. Attendees will also learn about the role and contributions of the CFO in each of the case studies.
