Realizing the Future of Higher Education
Summary
The national media often paints higher education with a broad brush, but there are many different options for higher education in today’s world. An understanding of the current landscape of higher education, the disruption that is occurring in the industry, and how a healthy educational ecosystem can benefit a region is important for communities to thrive. The discussion will explore what makes regional comprehensive universities unique, their role in creating economic equity, how a growing university can support economic and workforce development, and why educational attainment rates are crucial in creating a high quality of life, prosperity, and a diverse economy within a region. We will examine where higher education is moving in the future and the potential impact of those changes.

Keynote Speaker
Michael Alexander
Chancellor | University of Wisconsin - Green Bay
Biography
Michael Alexander assumed the role as the seventh chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on May 1, 2020. Prior to that, he served as provost and vice chancellor at UW-Green Bay since July 2019. While Provost, he oversaw programming and leadership of the four academic colleges; the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, the Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement, the UW-Green Bay Libraries, the Office of Admissions, and led the four UW-Green Bay campuses including those in Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan.
Since joining the University, Alexander led the expansion of the University’s Continuing Education and Community Engagement efforts to build connections to high school students, increase non-credit offerings, and provide educational services to regional businesses; created priorities to drive the University’s strategic mission and vision; initiated new, international relationships with universities in Thailand; created an Office of Sustainability to improve efficiencies and increase the profile of UW-Green Bay as a campus traditionally engaged with environmental study; and restructured Graduate Studies and the Office of Grants and Research, setting the stage for the University’s growing research efforts.
Alexander came to UW-Green Bay having served as director of the School of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. He also served as orchestra conductor and interim director of the School of Music at Kennesaw State University and Music Director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra for eleven years. The Grand Island, NY native lived in Wisconsin from 1995 to 2004. He earned his master’s degree at UW-Milwaukee and his doctorate at UW-Madison.

State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
