Ethical Decision Making

Summary
This session will focus on why ethics are important in business and the accounting profession, where we will discuss various types of ethical and unethical behaviors. We will explore concepts including the ladder of ethics, ethical framing, and key factors for ethical decision-making, complete with example scenarios from the corporate world.

Learning objectives
1.  Recognize the need for ethics in business and the accounting profession
2.  Develop and identify the ladder of ethics and how it factors into ethical
    decision- making
3. Describe how behavioral ethics considerations apply to real-world example
    scenarios

Kim Boyle
CAST Engagement Director | CLA

Biography
Kim is an Engagement Director in the CAST practice of the Raleigh, North Carolina Office of CLA. Kim is a CPA and CMA with over 25 years of business and industry experience, including 6 years at a Big 4 firm (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in the assurance department. While at Duke Energy (previously Progress Energy) she held various roles, including controller for the gas operations division.  

Kim has been with CLA for over 3 years in the CAST group working with clients in the healthcare industry. This is Kim’s third year leading sessions on ethics for CLA. Kim holds a BA in Accounting from North Carolina State University.
