Summary
We’ve all had defining moments in our career that helped shape who we are, both as a professional and as a person. From her first business lunch as an intern to an ethical bombshell involving senior management on the first day of a new job, Katie Scherping will explore how she was able to leverage key experiences in her career to discover what was truly important to her, and how you can do the same to build your own personal brand.
Biography
With more than 30 years of finance, accounting and managerial experience, Katie Scherping joined the National Cinemedia (NCM) management team as Chief Financial Officer in August, 2016.
Prior to joining NCM, Katie was Quiznos’ Interim President and CEO from June 2016 to July 2016, and the Quiznos CFO from December 2013 to July 2016. During her tenure at Quiznos, Katie led the company through a successful Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
Katie served as Red Robin's Chief Financial Officer from June 2005 to July 2011. During Katie’s tenure at Red Robin, the company grew from 274 restaurants to over 450. Revenue grew from $486.0 million in 2005 to $864.3 million in 2010.
Katie began her career in Denver in the early 1980's as an auditor with Arthur Andersen. She moved on to various accounting positions within companies in the oil and gas industry, security alarm monitoring, telecommunications, technology, and restaurant industries.
Katie has received several awards for her professional accomplishments including the Jean Yancey Award for Outstanding Women in Business, CFO of the Year Award, and she was recognized by her alma mater, Northern Illinois University, as an Outstanding Accountancy Alumni.
Katie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and is a CPA and CGMA. Katie is also an active member of the Denver Chapter of Financial Executives International.

Summary
Over the past decade, U.S. companies have paid hundreds of millions of dollars to settle class action wage and hour lawsuits. Seemingly small compliance errors or incorrect timeclock programming can add up to hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars of liability for back wages, penalties and legal fees. Moreover, compliance is getting even more complicated as the US DOL is making changes to the rules relating to overtime exempt employees. This presentation will focus on alerting attendees to some of the most common wage and hour violations so they will have the tools to spot possible issues in their organizations before they become becomes major lawsuits.

Daniel D. Barker is a Principal in the Madison, Wisconsin, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Barker represents employers in all labor and employment law matters. He has successfully defended clients in discrimination claims before courts and administrative agencies, as well as worked with employers to find creative and cost-effective solutions to their most difficult labor and employment-related legal challenges.
His experience includes guiding employers through union-related challenges and all traditional labor matters, including strikes, collective bargaining, arbitrations, organizing campaigns, elections, and cases before the National Labor Relations Board; defending employers as lead counsel in employment discrimination and harassment cases, including complex class action and high-profile discrimination cases; counseling and advising employers on performance management, disciplinary and discharge decisions, reductions in force, disability law compliance issues, internal investigations, and enforceability of post-employment restrictive covenants; helping employers comply with state and federal wage and hour requirements, including collective action matters and investigations involving administrative agencies; training supervisors and managers to implement and administer proper harassment and fair employment policies and practices.

Joe leads the Firm’s business development efforts. He has over 25 years of progressive financial management experience. Joe previously served as Chief Financial Officer of a Wisconsin printing operation which allows him to bring a valuable plan sponsor perspective to his business development efforts. A Certified Public Accountant since 1985, Joe is currently a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a contributing writer for the Wisconsin CPA monthly journal. He is an active member of Metro Milwaukee Society for Human Resource Management (MMSHRM) and served on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Retirement Plan Professionals, Ltd. (WRPPL). Joe is a graduate of Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Joe resides in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin with his wife and six children.

Kelli leads the Firm’s employee education and individual advisory services. She brings over twenty-five years of financial services experience to the team including over twenty-two with the Francis team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration – Marketing from Michigan State University and a Master of Education from Carroll College specializing in Adult Education. She is responsible for all aspects of employee education, including curriculum development, design of education programs, and delivery of face-to-face individualized advisory services. Kelli has extensive experience in training and public speaking engagements and has authored research on the impact of workplace financial education programs on 401(k) participant rates of return. She holds a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation. Kelli makes her home in Sussex, Wisconsin with her husband and three children.
Financial Executives International (FEI) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
