2015 Dallas Match Play Registration

The Dallas Chapter will again offer a Match Play League in 2015!

Match Play is a competitive format where, instead of keeping track of each of your strokes for the round, you keep track of the holes that you win or lose.  The player who wins the most holes, wins the match!  Many players find Match Play to be a fun way to compete since one “blow-up hole” doesn’t mean you’re out of the match.  (For official match play details, visit the USGA’s website and read up on Rule 2.)

Play starts May 16, 2015

Deadline to register is May 1, 2015

Space is limited so register early!

Join us for a chance to learn this fun format.  Winners will earn prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each flight!

Dates:

Round One starts May 16th and the competition will wrap up on September 27th.  During that time you will play between two and five matches, depending on whether you win your match and move on to the next level of the competition.

Cost:

$25, which will be used to award prizes to the winners in each flight.  Greens fees will be paid by competitors for the course they choose.

Handicap:

To join the league, you must have an established handicap index or have posted four scores from the past six months. (Be sure to specify the source of your handicap when you register.)

Register:

Registration will begin on April 1st and the registration deadline is April 19th.

Due to the nature of this event, the size of the field must be limited.  Registrations will be accepted in the order submitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never played match play.  Is that ok?

Yes!  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the format.  League members will also have the opportunity to attend an orientation and rules meeting (date and time to be announced later).

How many matches will I get to play?

You are guaranteed at least two matches, but may play as many as five matches.

Who will I play against?

Initial pairings for Round One will be based on handicaps.  Your first opponent will be determined by the player whose handicap is closest to yours within your flight.  For the remaining rounds, your opponent is determined based on the winners and losers of the other matches.

For example, if you win your match in Round One, and “Brenda Birdiemaker” in your flight also wins her match, you will play each other in Round Two and have a chance to advance to Round Three.  If you lose your match in Round One, and “Sarah Shanker” also loses her match, you will play Sarah in a consolation match.

Where will matches be played?

Before Round One and after each subsequent round, you’ll be notified of pairings for the upcoming matches.  You are responsible for contacting your opponent for each round and arranging a tee time on a course that is acceptable to both players.

What if I win my match?

Yay you!  You get to move on to the next round and play again. Place in the top three for your flight and you’ll win a significant gift card or prize!

What if I lose my first match?

It’s not over!  You still get the chance to play in the consolation bracket for your flight.

What if my opponent and I can’t find a time to play before the deadline for the round?

It’s vital that all players complete their matches during the allotted time in order for the competition to move forward.  If you absolutely cannot find a mutually agreeable time to play your match, one player may need to forfeit.  We cannot extend the matches to more than the generous time given to complete your match (4 weekends between rounds).
