In this two-day class with Elise Strauss instructing, you will construct your own sea life diorama on a brass candlestick. The design will be your own – you get to decide how many seals or beluga whales, what kind of waves, and how to top off your sculpture! With a puffin? A wave? The vertical composition is a fun challenge! Elise will show you how to make a harbor seal, a beluga whale, and a puffin, and help you incorporate them into a harmonious vertical composition.
You will learn the basics of sculptural lampwork and make small murrini fish (herring, because that's what seals eat) to apply to your story pole, all while exploring the basics of design for a vertical element.
The cost is $300 for the two day class with an additional materials fee for the brass candlesticks and dichroic glass. Elise will be providing those and we are estimating $25. She will also give you a recipe for patina that works wonderfully with the brass candlesticks.
If you would like to use your own torch you can bring it on the Friday night before class to set it up. We have Nortel Minor burners on the teaching bench and they are fine for this project, but we know some people like to work with thier own torch.
Classtime is 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day, Saturday & Sunday, September 3 & 4, 2016.
Lunch is included in the class fee. Snacks are always appreciated.
Please join us for this fun class with our friend in glass, Elise Strauss!
