Orchestras

DYAO

DYAO, the most advanced of our ensembles, performs four to six concerts annually, including one side-by-side concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.  Concerts are performed at Boettcher Concert Hall and Gates Concert Hall.  Recent repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony, Respighi’s Pines of Rome, and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite

Placement in DYAO is determined by audition.  Membership is open to musicians between the ages of 12 and 23.  DYAO is conducted by Wes Kenney.  Composed of approximately 100 members, DYAO rehearses Saturday mornings from 9:00am-1:00pm at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music (2344 E Iliff Ave, Denver).

Tuition for DYAO is $625, plus a $195 retreat fee and $150 refundable volunteer deposit.  Payment plans and work-study scholarships are available.

Conservatory Orchestra (North/South)

The Conservatory Orchestra is an advanced level ensemble for students who aspire to grow into DYAO.  The Conservatory Orchestra performs three concerts annually in conjunction with the String Ensemble.  Performances take place at Bethany Lutheran Church and Boettcher Concert Hall.  Students receive regular professional coachings throughout the season and attend an overnight retreat in September.  Recent repertoire includes Beethoven’s First Symphony, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, and Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Suite.

Placement in the Conservatory Orchestra is by audition.  Membership is open to musicians between the ages of 10 and 18.  The Conservatory Orchestra is conducted by Javan Carson.  Conservatory Orchestra (South) rehearses Monday evenings from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Bethany Lutheran Church (4500 E Hampden Ave, Cherry Hills Village).  Conservatory Orchestra (North) rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Denver School of the Arts (7111 Montview Blvd, Denver).

String Ensemble (North/South)

The String Ensemble gives young music students an opportunity to experience the great wealth of string orchestra literature. The ensemble is designed for those who have developed facility in bowing techniques, reading music, and the use of vibrato. The student’s current level should be the end of Suzuki book 4 through 6 (3-5 for violists).  Composed of approximately 25 members, the String Ensemble performs three concerts in conjunction with the Conservatory Orchestra.

Placement in the String Ensemble is determined by audition and membership is open to musicians between the ages of 8 and 13.  The String Ensemble is conducted by Javan Carson.  String Ensemble (South) rehearses Monday evenings from 5:30pm-6:45pm at Bethany Lutheran Church (4500 E Hampden Ave, Cherry Hills Village).  String Ensemble (North) rehearses Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm-6:45pm at the Denver School of the Arts (7111 Montview Blvd, Denver).

Tuition for the String Ensemble is $525, plus a $35 retreat fee and $150 refundable volunteer deposit.  Payment plans and work-study scholarships are available.
