THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT
Course Description:
Presented by Principals Sean Keenan, PE, and Paul Taylor, AIA IIDA, this course looks to show there is more to light than simply "on/off" and brightness. Using Bialosky's Lighting Lab, the presentation demonstrates core concepts behind the science of light and its real-world applications to architectural design. The course expands beyond physical laws and also discusses occupant health and wellness.

Attendees will discuss specific lighting design challenges and solutions for different project types, including elderly housing, workplaces, and restaurants.

Attendees will visualize the understand the core concept of circadian rhythm and how it relates to experiencing designed enfironments. Attendees will evaluate how introducing circadian light practices promote mental an physical well-being and productivity of building occupants.

Attendees will compare ad contrast the appearance of selected materials under diverse lighting design specifications, including Corelate Color Temperature (CCT) and Color Rendering Index (CRI).

Attendees will explore the benefits of LED lighting compared to traditional lighting techniques, including energy efficiency, environmental impact, and design flexibility.
