GBX Group Headquarters
The new GBX Group Headquarters-an AIA Cleveland Design Awards recipient-represents preservation, revitalization and transformation. A former garment factory, the 1913 five-story, timber-framed historic structure was strategically planned as a compilation of glass-encased and open work areas within a rehabilitated interior environment of exposed wood structural elements and brick walls. The project's design team will give a tour of the building and discuss the issues and challenges of renovating a historic property into a new headquarters for the GBX Group.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will tour the historic building in it's final, renovated state with the design team as their guide. They will be able to see elements of the existing timber-framed structure strategically reinforced and rehabilitated alongside it's modern counterparts.
- Attendees will be able to identify a number of code issues within the historic building that required close consideration in the design and renovation process. They will be able to note where the design team needed to resolve issues pertaining to accessibility, fire protection, acoustic treatments, and ventilation.
- Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the various design options pertaining to HVAC design for a historic factory building, and they will consider the cost implications for each design approach. They will discuss how the design team landed on the ultimate design as a best solution for conditioning a relatively open structure.
- Attendees will explore how the complexities of historic renovation can impact a project's schedule and cost. They will understand how requirements from the State Historic Preservation Offieces can affect the design of both the interior and exterior of the project.

PARKING:
Parking is free and lot is located on the corner of East 21st Street and Rockwell Avenue. The parking gate will remain opend during this event. Once parked, walk south on East 21st Street. The entrance to GBX Group is on the north side of the building. Proceed through the fenced gate and continue to the main entrance. Once inside the building foyer, you'll be greeted and directed to the 3rd floor lobby/reception area of the GBX Group.
