13 hours Training, Lunch Included

Introductory Fee: $100 (Early Bird Fee: $80 until October 15)

We are proud to re-launch the updated and revised Safe Spaces training program for ECE’s at Vancouver's inspiring VanDusen Gardens.

Safe Spaces is an evidence based, developmentally appropriate, holistic and integrated approach to teaching young children pro-social and emotional vocabulary, as well as skills identified as essential in preventing bullying behaviours that has been developed by Westcoast Child Care Reource Centre.

Exciting changes to the program include:

  • Current research and language on bullying.
  • The addition of a pre-reading component reducing training hours to 12 (plus 1 hour credit for completing the pre-reading requirement).
  • A Safe Spaces kit is no longer required. Participants will learn how to implement resources that are readily available in any early childhood program. Extensive song, activity and book lists are provided.
  • Participants may attend independently or in a staff team and will have an opportunity to contribute and influence an ongoing Safe Spaces community of practice.

Facilitators:

Lesley Richardson is an experienced Early Childhood Educator with a passion for introducing anti-bias/diversity education in the early years. She has worked in adult education for many years and continues to mentor and teach ECE students.

Dorothy Fizzell has worked as an Early Childhood Educator since 1982 in a variety of child care settings including community and government agencies.
