Course Description:

This presentation will introduce an integrative and evidence-based principled approach to working with individuals experience clinical signifcant levels of psychological distress (i.e., issues pertaining to stress, anxiety, depression, relationship, and identity).  The day long presentation will start with a review of the psychotherapy integration movement and articulate the most recent developments toward a unified psychotherapy.  The second portion of the talk will delineate a map of character adaptation and human well-being that can integrate across the major therapy perspectives.  Finally, central principles associated with the therapeutic alliance, human change processes, and adaptive ways to deal with negative emotion will be delineated.  

Leaning Objectives:

1. List the five major approaches to psychotherapy, and what differentiates eclectic from integrative from unified
2. Learn to identify the five systems of character adaptation and how they correspond to the key insights of the major psychotherapy paradigms
3. Learn to identify the four key aspects that define the "Neurotic Internalizing" cluster of conditions
4. List the four key process variables associated with good therapy outcomes
5. Discuss the five principles and characteristics associated with psychological mindfulness

Speaker Information:

Dr. Gregg Henriques is a Professor of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University, where he directs the APA-Approved Combined-Integrated Doctoral Program in Clinical-School Psychology. He is also Membership Chair for Division 24 of the APA (Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology). Dr. Henriques received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont. Dr. Henriques teaches courses in personality theory, personality assessment, social psychology, and integrative adult psychotherapy. Dr. Henriques’ primary area of scholarly interest is in the development of a new unified theory of psychology; he also is studying character and wellbeing, and working to develop a more unified approach to psychotherapy. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia.

Continuing Education:

National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) Credits - 5.5 hours
"This course has been approved by CHEP as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider for 5.5 CEs.  NAADAC provider number 62665, CHEP is responsible for all aspects of their programming."

American Psychological Association (APA) Credits - 5.5 hours

Maryland SW Credits - 5.5 hours

National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Credits - 5.5 hours

Evaluation and Certificate:

All attendees are required to sign-in in order to receive credits.  Sign-in sheets will be available at the registration desk for up to 30 minutes prior to the start of the program and 30 minutes after the start of the program. 

An evaluation will be emailed to you within two business days of the program's completion.  Once you complete and submit this evaluation, your certificate will automatically generate to be saved or printed.
