Following a brief overview of the neurology and key features of ADHD, there will be a detailed discussion of the methods for conducting a thorough clinical diagnostic interview, taking a good developmental history, and using self-report measures to evaluate a client for potential ADHD. Common co-morbidities (anxiety, depression, substance abuse) and their impact will also be addressed. The many faces of ADHD will be explored and how it can vary in presentation from person to person and across the lifespan, due to hormonal, maturational and environmental changes as well as based on personality, intelligence and co-existing conditions.  Specific, effective hands-on treatment strategies will be explained, including teaching clients’ time-management and organizational strategies, positive habit-development, stress management and self-care. Learn how to teach important, evidence-based methods of brain optimization to enhance executive functioning, including the use of medication, brain-training, meditation, and exercise. Recognize the importance of medication management ineffectively treating your clients with ADHD.  Explore the role of coaching, neurocognitive psychotherapy, and teaching clients to create ADD-friendly home and workplace environments.
