July 18th: STAYCATION:  Tourists is Our Own City, $325   FULL

In this class we will travel to destination spots around the city capturing our awesome town, Boston.  Each day will have a different emphasis such as decisive moment, composition, angle/perspective, repeated patterns and symbols.  This class is perfect for beginners or the more experienced student.  If they so choose, participants can focus on one area of photography (nature, people, abstract, black and white, documentary etc), and I will guide them in their vision. Field trip options: Fort Revere, Christian Science Center, Chinatown, Caste Island, Revere Beach, North End, Boston Public Market, Harvard Square and more.  Lessons on editing and manipulating images will be given in Lightroom.  All lessons and reviews will take place at Big Picture teaching space and photo shoots take place in the Boston area.  Students use professional DSLRs, Nikon D100, D70, supplied by Big Picture! Click here to see photos by one student who decided to focus on the Boston Through It's Feet.

July 25th and Aug 1: Two-week Fiction Film Workshop $595  Full

Students will learn screenplay structure, story development, directing, acting, camera work and editing.  After we decide on our story we morph it into proper screenplay format with 3 Acts, Character Arc, Obstacles that the hero must overcome and all that good stuff.  We storyboard, assign actors, film around town and edit at the teaching space.  Students are welcome to bring short scripts to choose from and/or ideas for our project.  Editing is done in iMovie with possible field trip to Apple Store.  We also spend a some time watching movies and may go to one matinee.  Each student will asked to play a vital role and often switch around from acting, directing, filming and editing.  Do not be shy.  We need to act in our own films.  We like comedies and we like to have fun!  CLICK HERE to check out 2014 Scizzy Dizzy and A South Get Paid.

August 8th: Experimental Movie Making / AKA "Docudrama", $325 FULL

Students will mix real life scenarios with fiction.  One way we do this is by setting up trials based on an agreed upon subject such as "the kindness of strangers".  We set up various situations to "test" people's kindness.  Or, we will start with our social experiment question/theme like we did with Safety/Gun Use, and morph it into a fiction film ending as we did with "Safety: Real or an Illusion."  Students will film and edit the movie in imovie.  We will explore cinematography, camera use, editing, acting, social psychology and documentary film making.  This is my favorite week.  It is harder to explain, but the best way to understand what we do, is to check out past productions.  CLICK to view  THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS and SAFETY: REAL OR AN ILLUSION.
