Peer Programs Session #1 - Peer Health and Peer Literacy Educator Training 

What is a Peer Health Educator?

A Peer Health Educator learns how to advocate for her/his family’s health and how to share that information with other Head Start, ECEAP, and Early Head Start parents.

What Does a Peer Health Educator do?

  • Learn how to recognize and cope with more than 200 of the most common health concerns
  • Learn how to assist your child in being healthy and successful at school
  • Learn about asthma and dental resources
  • Discover ways to advocate for your family and make talking to your doctor easier

What is a Peer Literacy Educator?

A Peer Literacy Educator is a parent/guardian who is interested in learning and sharing information with other adults about the importance of literacy in helping a child be successful in life.

What Does a Peer Literacy Educator Do?

  • Learn how easy it is to increase a child’s success in school
  • Learn information designed to help parents understand the importance of talking, singing and reading to their child
  • Learn language activities that can be used anytime, anywhere
  • Share the excitement and fun with other parents after attending training

What do Peer Health Educators gain from this program?

What is the time commitment?

Peer Health and Peer Literacy Educators spend about 20 hours in training.  After the training, Peer Health and Peer Literacy Educators are expected to complete at least 3 activities/presentations at their child’s site and/or other sites.

Who does the program serve?

Peer Programs serves all Head Start, Early Head Start, and ECEAP parents/guardians. Peer Programs is offered in English and Spanish, with interpreters available for other languages.
