Journey of the Heart Couples Retreat

A faith-based get-away for married couples who have

experienced the death of a child of all ages.

We are looking so forward to welcoming you with open arms and hearts to our Journey of the Heart Couples Retreat.  We also are parents who have lost a child and it is our greatest desire to offer you encouragement, love and support throughout the weekend.  We know you may feel apprehensive about attending with others whom you have never met, not knowing what to expect, so we would like to share the following brief schedule of our weekend together.

Registration is from 8:30 to 10:00 am Saturday morning and our time together begins at 10 am with a special welcome, music, a sketch “We Are So Different” followed by a message “How Tonia's Death Affected Our Marriage” and lunch break.  The afternoon session starts with “12 Dynamic Actions for Healing” and “Learning a New Grief Language” followed by an “Ice Cream Sundae Break”. The following workshops will be offered for you to choose from that will be most beneficial to your marriage. 

Forgiving ourselves and forgiving others.

Q & A – For dads only and Q & A – For moms only

Sibling Grief – Helping our other children through grief when we are grieving ourselves.

Following the workshops will be "Couples Time" with couples sharing their stories followed by a chocolate and candlelight dinner.  After dinner will be a special “Celebrating our Children” candle lighting program and afterwards will be an evening of fellowship out on the deck overlooking the lake making s’mores around the campfire.

Sunday morning you may wish to start your day with an early morning walk.  Canterbury Retreat Center is a peaceful setting located on 48 acres of natural beauty surrounding a lake.  A buffet breakfast will be served from 8:00 – 8:30 am.  The main session will start at 8:50 am with special music followed by a message “Leaving a Legacy of Love, Joy, and Laughter” followed by a message “Holding on to Hope”.  The retreat will end with a heaven bound balloon release at 11:30 am.

We are looking forward to our journey together making new friends who understand our hearts who are walking on the same road towards hope and healing.
