 Session 1

9:10 -10:30 a.m.

Proactively Managing Conflict

Conflict is not inherently negative and is rarely about the real issue.  Rather, it’s about how it's handled.  Though unsettling, when responded to constructively and respectfully, conflicts encourage creative communication, lead to unity, increase productivity, and facilitate positive change. This session looks at the dynamics of miscommunication and conflict and suggests a creative resolution process that acknowledges emotional and power issues, encourages the sharing of individual points of view, and works cooperatively toward solutions.

Presenter: Gerri King, PhD

10:30 – 10:45 a.m. Break

 Session 2

10:45 a.m. – Noon

Coaching and Motivating Others to Achieve Goals

When employees are included in the goal setting process, they are committed to reaching them. Though supervisors certainly play a role, motivation ultimately comes from within and blossoms in a welcoming setting.  This session will address how coaching focuses on helping a person learn while encouraging her or him to continue growing.  The purpose is to increase effectiveness, broaden thinking, identify strengths and development needs, and set and achieve challenging goals. The coaching environment is supportive, not judgmental, and encouraging, not definitive.  It’s based on an interactive model that encourages exploration and offers strong choices.

Presenter: Gerri King, PhD

Session 3

Understanding Work Styles

Do you ever wonder why some people are so stuck on numbers or budgets? Conversely, are you ever frustrated because people don't take their budgets seriously? Are you confused when people value rules and regulations over individual needs? Or are you concerned that others don't understand the seriousness of the business we are in? Using a skill assessment, you will identify your interpersonal strengths and preferred behavioral style. You'll also examine these questions as well as how different work styles affect motivation, communication and behavior. As a result, you'll have an increased understanding and ability to work with people with different styles, and be better able to reduce conflict and improve communication.

Presenter: Lynne M. Richards, MBA

2:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.        Break

 Session 4

2:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.

Fostering Accountability

“It’s not my job,” “Tell me what to do,” “If only we had the resources.” Finger pointing, excuses and dodging accountability are individual and organizational behaviors that are a recipe for missed goals, unsatisfactory results and poor performance. Learn how you can rise above the “blame game” and foster a culture of accountability. In this session you will learn how to detect the symptoms of victim mentality and the ‘responsibility-avoiding syndrome;’ discuss benefits and barriers of personal responsibility; and be able to identify four key action steps for increasing individual and organizational accountability.
