“Why Does He Do That?”: Exploring the Process of Change
featuring Lundy Bancroft
9:00 am- 4:00 pm
In Douglas County the 911 department received almost 12,500 calls that indicated a domestic dispute in 2012. Some victims of domestic violence are never able to make that 911 call.
For the last 40 years, the battered women’s movement has fought to find safety for victims and their children while simultaneously attempting to shine a light on the origins of violence. Yet the public, family and friends, and service providers often ask “Why Doesn’t She Leave?” The question needs to be “Why Does He Do That?” and how can we, as the public, friends and family, and service providers hold offenders accountable? The DVC is hosting a day of lectures and discussions to further explain offender behaviors and coercive tactics, learn to avoid inadvertent collusion and move away from victim-blaming practices.
