WV Expo 2024 is March 20-21.  This $125 registration provides you access to all AIA West Virginia seminars (total of 7 continuing education seminars) on both March 20 & 21. This fee also includes the chapter meeting and lunch for Wednesday, March 20.

Description of Presentation

The one-hour session will cover the energy impact of roof color based on various geographic regions along with a

review of the performance trade-offs and other considerations that go into a sustainable roofing system design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about which geographic regions are best suited for “cool” or highly reflective roofs from an energy perspective.
  • Learn about the heating penalty associated with cool roofs and how that impacts energy consumption/costs.
  • Learn about differences in the weatherability and hail resistance of various roofing membranes.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between fail safe and fail secure electrified hardware
  • Learn how the 2021 IBC affects the use of automatic operators on accessible public entrances, including requirements related to touchless switches and stand-by power
  • Understand the difference between “special locking arrangements” and “normal locking arrangements”
  • Become familiar with recent code change related to electrified hardware, including controlled egress, delayed egress, stairwell reentry, and electromagnetic locks

Participants will be able to correlate how claims/contract provisions effect insurance premiums.
