  Working Women's Wednesday with

Dr. Vanessa Bravo

Out of every 10 Latinx* people living in the United States, 8 are U.S. citizens, and 7 of them are U.S.-born and raised. Only 2 out of 10 are undocumented, and they are trying to raise families and hoping to give their children an opportunity for a better life.

Dr. Bravo will facilitate a session that addresses the following questions:  What are some facts and myths associated with the Latino community in the United States? What about the Latino community established in Alamance County? How is their experience?

Dr. Bravo is a professor in the School of Communications at Elon University. Besides teaching classes, Dr. Bravo chaired a group at Elon that conducted research for two years to understand the experiences of Latinx students, faculty and staff on campus and in the community. She also conducts research about government-diaspora strategic communications and about the experience of Latinx women in Alamance County. In 2017, Dr. Bravo recieved the Excellence in Research Faculty Award from the School of Communications.

Anyone interested in learning more about the experiences of Latinx communities in the U.S. and Alamance County should join this informative session!

*Latinx is a gender-inclusive term used to mean Latinos and Latinas.
