The Silk Road and the Exchange of Ideas
For thousands of years, goods and ideas traveled the fabled Silk Road. From an artistic perspective this trade was a kind of slow, long-distance conversation in which ideas from one area move to another, causing changes in the artwork of other cultures. This lecture will follow a few, distinctive visual motifs across the Silk Road and back and show how cultures and ideas were changed and developed by this conversation.
