FALL 2022 Parenting / Adult Program Schedule

PLEASE NOTE: Program description will state if it is in-person or online.

 For virtual classes:

  • Online programs will be held on Zoom. A Zoom account is not needed to participate. The facilitator will send you a Zoom link via email, a couple of days prior to the course start date. 
  • Individual Rate: Registration is for one person on one device (computer, tablet or phone) 
  • Couples Rate: Up to two people can attend by sharing the screen on one device

We offer a number of FREE programs courtesy of grants, community partners and generous donors.
Please do not register for these programs if you do not sure if you will attend at the time it is offered. There are limited spaces available and we would like to offer these programs to as many parents as possible who are committed to taking the program. We do not provide recordings of any of our programs. 

PARENTING STRATEGIES AND ADHD - ONLINE

(for parents of children ages 5 to 12 with ADHD*) 

Explore parenting strategies such as effective communication, and positive approaches to discipline to strengthen your relationship with your child. Topics include: teaching new skills, defining rules, responding to challenging behaviour consistently, planning for potentially difficult situations, encouraging positive behaviour, and being an advocate for your child's needs.

*No proof of diagnosis is required. The program is not intended for assessment.

Dates: Mondays, November 7 to December 5, 2022 (5 sessions)

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on ZOOM

Fee: $55 per person or $75 per couple

DADS MATTER- ONLINE

(for dads, gradfathers, and caregivers) 

Join us for a live, interactive meeting on Zoom every Tuesday evening to connect with others and discuss parentnig challenges and fatherhood. There will be a focus on "Things Dads Do", and the importance of fathers in the lives of children. Learn about child development and discover ways to have fun with your child at their different ages and stages.

Date: Tuesdays, November 22, to December 13, 2022 (4 sessions)

RENT SMART BASICS - IN PERSON

(for adults) 

Rent Smart Basics is a course designed to help you learn important skills to build your knowledge and confidence to find and keep housing. You'll learn important tools to understand what it means to have a successful tenancy: paying your rent, peaceful enjoyment, and looking after your home.

This workshop will be held in person, in South Winnipeg Family Information Centre at 800 Point Road.

Date: Saturday, November 19, 2022

Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm

NOBODY'S PERFECT - IN PERSON

(for parents, along with their child ages 0 to 6) 

Meet with other parents of young children, share questions, concerns and ideas about being a parent, learn about child development, safety, health & behaviour, discuss real-life parenting solutions, and discover positive ways of parenting. Childminding provided. Participants receive set of Nobody's Perfect Parenting books.

This program will be held in person, in South Winnipeg Family Information Centre at 800 Point Road.

Date: Tuesdays, November 15 to December 6, 2022 (4 sessions)

Time: 9:30 am to 11:30 am

Fee: FREE - Funding provided by the WRHA and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living

CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING - ONLINE

(for parents of children ages 0 to 6) 

This relationship-based parenting program, provides ideas to encourage a stronger connection between parent and child. Learn new ways to understand, and respond to your child's needs and behaviours, that help to increase the emotional security of your children. Children who feel more secure have: increased empathy, healthy self-esteem, positive relationships, and a greater ability to manage their emotions more effectively.

Date: Thursdays, October 27 to December 15, 2022 (8 sessions)

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on ZOOM

Fee: $20 or contact us to request a fee waiver

PLEASE NOTE: Manuals will be required for this program. Manuals can either be picked up on from our office or sent to you via courier for a fee.

MY TWEEN & ME - IN PERSON

 (for parents, along with their child ages 7 to 11

My Tween & Me is a facilitated group program that provides parents and their tweens with the knowledge, tools and support they need during the child's transition to adolescence. This program will help build lasting connections and help your tween make safe, healthy choices now and during their teen years.

This program will be held in person, in South Winnipeg Family Information Centre at 800 Point Road.

Date: Wednesdays, October 12 to November 16, 2022 (6 sessions)

Time: 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

Fee: FREE - supported by the Healthy Child Coalition

PLEASE NOTE: Registration is for 1 parent and 1 child together.


TRIPLE P SELECT - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM - ONLINE

(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Date: Thursdays, September 29, October 6, October 13, 2022 (3 sessions)

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on ZOOM

Fee: $35.00 per person or $55.00 per couple

PARENT EDUCATOR 1 to 1 APPOINTMENTS - ONLINE

(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one on one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.

Date: By appointment only

Time: 1 hour

Fee: $45.00 per 1 hour appointment only

CANCELLATION POLICY & TERMS OF AGREEMENT: 

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR PAID PROGRAMS:

If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.

For Zoom programs:

  • Please review the Zoom privacy policy: https://zoom.us/privacy
  • I understand SWFIC will not record any sessions on ZOOM, and recording the class is also prohibited for participants.
  • Participants must attend on time or may not be admitted to the Zoom program.
  • Sharing Zoom links is strictly prohibited. All participants must register in order to attend the program.
  • SWFIC reserves the right to remove participants from a course for abusive or disruptive behaviour.
