BABYSITTER TRAINING for Students age 12 and up

Learn how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Includes: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsiblilites. Successful participants receive a certificate.  Students must be 12 years of age within two months of the workshop.  Please note that a  nut free, bagged lunch and drink are required.  If your child has any allergies or health concerns the facilitator should be aware of please call the office 204-284-9311 after registration is completed.  Choose one of the following dates:

Dates:                Saturday September 20

                            Friday October 17 (Pembina Trails school in-service day)

                            Saturday October 18 

                            Friday  October 24 (Province Wide school in-service day S.A.G.E.)

                            Saturday November 15

                            Friday November 28 (LRSD and Pembina Trails school in-service day)

Time:                   9:00 am -  3:30 pm

READY, SET, SOLO! For Students age 11 and up, along with a parent

Together you and your child create a plan for your child to stay at home alone safely and confidently. Discuss concerns as they relate to your family. Includes: home safety, family rules, emergencies, and strangers. Please note that in Manitoba children must not be left home alone until they are 12 years of age.

                       Tuesday, October 7                           6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

                        Thursday, November 13                  6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

                        Sunday, November 23                      6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

BASIC STUDY SKILLS FOR STUDENTS 

Students learn how to be more organized and better prepared for tests and school work. Students identify their preferred learning style (visual, auditory, tactile) and learn about strategies for each style.  If your child has any allergies or health concerns the facilitator should be aware of please call the office 204-284-9311 after registration is completed.

Dates:          Tuesday, October 14          Grades 5 and 6

                      Tuesday,  October 21        Grades 7 to 9                                            

Time:             6:00 pm -  8:30 pm

Fee:               $25.00 per student

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM 

for Parents of children aged 2 to 12

Learn simple and practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program that has been shown to work in most families.

Date:             Thursdays, for 3 weeks from October 2 to October 16

Time:              7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Fee:                $35.00 per person or $45.00 per couple

STEPPING STONES Triple P for Parents of special needs children

Learn a variety of parenting skills to manage your child's behaviour and promote your child's development and potential. (For parents of children with special needs under the age of 12). 

Date:               Mondays, for 6 weeks from October 20 to November 24

Time:               7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Fee:                  $50.00 per person or $60.00 per couple

SIGNING WITH YOUR CHILD for parents of children newborn to age 3

Learn how to use sign language to communicate with your young child and some basic signs to get you started.

Date: Thursday afternoons, November 13 and 20

Time: 9:30 am to 11:00 am

        Fee: $15.00 per person

ANXIETY  IN CHILDREN for parents 

Do you have a child that is anxious? Do you feel at a loss as to how to help? Join the Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (ADAM) to explore the different aspects of childhood anxiety, including signs and symptoms, thought patterns, and different types of anxiety. Also, learn about ways to help a child who is struggling with anxiety. 

Date: Tuesday, November 18

Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

        Fee: $15.00 per person

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PRE TEEN AND TEEN 

Learn what influences pre-teen and teen behaviour. Discover ways to improve communication, encourage cooperaton, discipline effectively and builda better relationship with oyour child.

Date: Thursdays, for 3 weeks from November 20 to December 4

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

        Fee: $45.00 per person or $55 per couple

HANDLE WITH CARE for parents with children from birth to age 6
FREE program with child minding provided

Learn activities and strategies to promote your child's positive social and emotional development, secure attachment, and healthy self-esteem.

            Date:      Thursday afternoons for 8 weeks from October 23 to December 11

            Time:       1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

 PARENT EDUCATOR

This individualized one-on-one service will provide you, in your role of parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.  In conversation with our parent educator, Lori Chrol, you will identify areas of your parent/child relationship that are problematic and receive effective approaches you can use immediately.  Appointments are required. For details or to book an appointment please contact us at 284-9311.   Fee: $40.00 per hour.

   LEADERS’ ORIENTATION FOR THE BASICS FOR BABYSITTER WORKSHOP

Are you interested in leading Babysitting Workshops?

We offer free training for adults interested in leading Babysitting training workshops for students in their school or local community. Are you available to work on in-service days? We are always looking to hire new faciliatators to work on an occasional basis.  Please call our offices at 204-284-9311 for more information.

Cancellation Policy: Full Refunds will be issued if we cancel a course. If you withdraw from the program 7 days or more prior to the start date your will receive a refund of your course fee less a $5 administration fee. After this time and once the program has started no refunds will be made.          

Registration for Children and Youth programs: Please ensure that you register only your own child. If your child has a friend who would also like to attend that child's family must complete the registration for them.
