"Developing a Ministry and Worship Outreach to Latinos"

Developing a Ministry and Worship Outreach to Latinos is a week-long course which will provide a broad overview of how to minister to Hispanic/Latino populations within either English- or Spanish-dominant congregations. The various models of multilingual services will be explored, including some attention given to the worship music that is being used in bilingual/multicultural worship. The course also delves into the religiosity profile and intercultural aspects of Latino culture and worship and other rituals, such as Quinceañeras, the Virgin of Guadalupe and other traditional Lenten and Christmas ceremonies. This course exposes the participants to the cultural and linguistic distinctions between the immigrant/first generation Latino and the U.S born, multi-generation Latinos whose lifestyle is bicultural, bilingual or English-dominant.

The Rev. Al Rodriguez Faculty: The Rev. Al Rodriguez, adjunct faculty at Southwest. Al is also a Fellow   with the national Fellowship Program of the Episcopal Church Foundation, which awarded a grant for his American Latino Episcopal Outreach (ALEO) project.
