Poster Competition

Delegates are welcome to submit a poster which is relevant to Oral Surgery for display at this regional study day. Submissions will be judged, and a small prize will be awarded for the best entry.

Poster sizes should be:  A0 size (1189 x 841 mm) (46.8 x 33.1 in), both portrait and landscape orientations will be accepted.

  • Describe surgical and orthodontic options for impacted canines
  • Discuss the management of patients with haematological disorders
  • Describe the impact of chemotherapy on surgical management
  • Describe various sedation regulatory guidance, techniques and standards
  • Provide a framework to implement standards within your practice
  •  Describe various surgical approaches to the maxillary sinus
  •  Discuss the management of foreign bodies and oral-antral communications
  •  Discuss the planning process for dental implants within the NHS hospital service
  •  Describe implant cases and final outcomes

Learning content:

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Know various treatment options for impacted canines
  • Understand the impact of chemotherapy on surgical treatment plans
  • Know the various standards for sedation and how to implement in practice
  • Know approaches to the maxillary sinus and management of foreign bodies/ OAC

Speakers Profiles

Dr Kathryn Helen Taylor
Senior Lecturer/Hon Consultant in oral Surgery; Liverpool University Dental Hospital

I qualified in dentistry at Sheffield University in 1993 and following vocational training completed the AACOMS oral and maxillofacial surgery training pathway in the Yorkshire region. My PhD research was investigating host defence peptides and wound healing in human oral epithelial cells but since commencing employment at Liverpool I have focussed on educational research. I am year 5 lead and teaching lead for the undergraduate BDS oral diseases programme.  I organise and deliver regular CPD course in sedation, oral surgery and medical emergencies.

Mrs Susi Caldwell
Orthodontic Consultant

I have been an orthodontic consultant at Wythenshawe Hospital for 20 years. I have worked with my surgical colleagues during this time to align many palatally ectopic canine teeth.

Andrew Kwasnicki
Clinical Lead/ Consultant in Special Care Dentistry Liverpool University Dental Hospital

Qualified in from Leeds in 2000, worked in a variety of settings including hospital community and general practice before limiting practice to special care dentistry in 2012. Currently works as a consultant in special care dentistry, working closely with the consultants in the Royal Liverpool Hospital which is a regional center for congenital bleeding disorders, hemato-oncology. Receives referrals from across Merseyside and Cheshire for patients undergoing cancer treatment from primary care dentists and medical consultants. 

Nasser Syed
Dentist   

Nasser qualified from Liverpool Dental School in 2006. In 2007 he started an SHO (Senior House Officer) position at Prince Charles Hospital in South Wales, which confirmed his desire to pursue a career in Oral Surgery. In 2009 he was offered the position of Speciality Dentist in Oral Surgery at Manchester Dental Hospital and in 2014 was awarded Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at the University of Manchester. He works throughout Greater Manchester receiving NHS Oral Surgery referrals under both LA and IV sedation. In 2017 he completed his Diploma in Conscious Sedation from the University of Newcastle. He averages around 10 IV sedations a week.

Dr Vicki Hadden
Consultant in Restorative Dentistry

Dr Vicki Hadden qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1984 and worked in primary dental care between 1984-1989 before commencing her SHO training at Dublin Dental Hospital between 1989-1990. She subsequently undertook her Specialist Training in Restorative Dentistry at Barts and The Royal London Hospital between 1990-1998 and works as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at UHMB Foundation Trust.

Dr Ameeta Joshi
Consultant Oral Surgeon

Dr Ameeta Joshi qualified from the University of Dundee in 1983. After completing junior training posts she read for a Masters and then completed a PhD in Manchester in 1985 as well as a MBA in 1998. She is now a Consultant in Oral Surgery and Clinical Director for Surgery/Core Clinical at University Hospitals Morecombe Bay Foundation Trust

Mr Jonathan Hobson
Consultant ENT Surgeon                      

I am a consultant ENT surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. I have been a consultant based at Wythenshawe Hospital since 2013 and prior to that was a consultant at Warrington Hospital. I was clinical director for specialist surgery at Wythenshawe between 2013 – 2018. My training as a registrar was in the North West and I spent a year on a rhinology fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide in 2010.
