The British Association of Oral Surgeons 2014 Conference

We are proud to present the BAOS Annual Conference 2015 which will be held in Manchester for the very first time. The venue will be the spectacular Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square, one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. Regarded as one of the finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in the UK,the building was designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse and was completed in 1877. It contains many grand ceremonial rooms such as the Great Hall where the main conference will be held.

This year we’ll be presenting our biggest ever programme which will provide a blend of research findings, updates and controversies alongside sessions to develop and educate you and your team. We’ll be hearing from the Chief Dental Officer about commissioning, from the President of the College of Emergency Medicine about the ED crisis and the future of urgent care in the NHS and from Keith Horner on whether Cone Beam CT is an essential tool or an expensive toy. Justin Durham will demystify the management of TMD and there will be special sessions on hypodontia and the latest research from Manchester on patient safety and quality. We’ll hear from members of the Cochrane Group on whether abandoning endocarditis prophylaxis might have been a mistake and what evidence tells us about the managing anticoagulated patients. We’ve listened to your feedback and have brought together a special session on the management of the bariatric patient where we’ll hear about the latest developments in bariatric surgery and the dental management of these patients.

We’re running a parallel careers session on Thursday 24th September that will appeal particularly to those at the beginning of their oral surgery careers. This session will include speakers from primary and secondary care, covering the latest developments in mediated entry and specialist training. Delegates will be offered personal career advice in an individual clinic appointment with a member of BAOS Council (limited availability, although we will do our best to meet demand).

The Nurse’s study day will be running on Wednesday 23rd September with an exciting programme that will both educate and challenge. Please be sure to encourage your team members to join you!

The Social evenings are always an essential part of the BAOS conference experience and this year we’ve got some fantastic nights planned. Wednesday evening’s event will be taking place in The Artisan Bar and Kitchen, set in a vast 12,000 square foot, semi-industrial space on the first floor in Spinningfields, Manchester. We’ll be featuring a DJ showcasing the very best of Manchester’s vibrant music scene. The  Annual Black tie dinner this year will  take place on Thursday in the 'Monastery', one of Manchester’s architectural masterpieces and a fantastically atmospheric space. The Social nights are all included in the 3 day Conference fee!

The BAOS conference is growing both in attendance and reputation every year. This year will be the finest yet with a diverse and interesting programme on Oral Surgery. Please view the draft programme below, which will be updated on a regular basis.
