Hosted by the Student Life Multicultural Center, Alternative Thanksgiving/Harvest Celebration is an open social and political alternative event to the Thanksgiving national holiday. American Indian/Indigenous students and allies are invited to learn about history and traditions of American Indian/Indigenous peoples at the time of contact. Food will be served that was common in Ohio in 1830.
This year will also feature live entertainment from Nake Nula Waun. This duo includes Frank Waln and Sampsoche Sampson. They are hip hop artists but also incorporate traditional performances into their work such as hoop dancing. In 2011 their album Scars and Bars won Best Rap/Hip Hop Recording at the Native American Music Awards. They have also won several other awards.
