Integrated Project Delivery -- Recent Experiences with IPD

Lunch Presentation: Introduction to Integrated Project Delivery through Autodesk AEC Headquarters

Monday, November 14th, 11:30am - 1:00 pm, Sheraton Uptown Hotel

An introduction to IPD through a discussion of one of Tocci’s IPD projects: the Autodesk AEC Headquarters in Waltham, MA. KlingStubbins, Tocci and Autodesk utilized an IPD agreement to deliver a project that exceeded expectations. The Autodesk AEC Headquarters was completed, from no design to Certificate of Occupancy, in 8 months with zero non-discretionary change orders. To date, the project has won over 15 awards, including the 2009 AIA Technology in Architectural Practice BIM Award and the 2009 International Interior Design Association Best Office Award. Participants will be able to:

  • List the key components of an IPD project and contract
  • Compare the phasing of an IPD project to a traditional project
  • Explain the differences between “lonely”, “social” and “intimate” BIM
  • Identify ways to use BIM on an IPD project

This presentation has been approved by the AIA for 1 HSW CEU.

Seminar: Integrated Project Delivery Constructs – How It Really Works

Monday, November 14th, 1:15 pm -3:30 pm, Sheraton Uptown Hotel

The seminar will dive into each of IPD’s required principles, so that participants understand the mechanisms behind the contract form. The principles are self-reinforcing and together enable a set of behaviors that create successful projects. The seminar will largely be based on the Hanson Bridgett, LLP form of agreement; although, the AIA and ConsensusDOCS forms will be referenced.  Several IPD projects and negotiations will be included as case studies, including the Autodesk AEC Headquarters and the Marlborough Hospital Cancer Pavilion.  Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key steps of negotiating an IPD agreement
  • Explain the IPD cost structure
  • Describe the IPD team structure
  • Define key integrated workflows

Speaker: Laura Handler, LEED ® APDirector of Virtual Design and Construction

She develops policies and standards for use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software and protocols for BIM development and management. Laura guides Tocci’s projects ensuring thatmaximum ROI for BIM Implementation is obtained. Laura also manages innovation and R&D, testing and optimizing new and existing technologiessuch as laser scanning, BIM for facilitiesmanagement and code-checking. Apart from her roles at Tocci, Laura is considereda national Leader in BIM, serving as a keymember of the AFC BIMForum, an organization dedicated to “making BIM work now”. She is the chairperson of the Boston Revit Users Group and serves as a liaison to the AIA Contract Documents Committee’s Task Group C, which focuses on digital practice documents including the AIA E202.
