Granddaddy's Watch, First Showing, Feb 21, 2023

The Buttonwillow Civil War Theater from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in cooperation with the Tennessee Valley Civil War Round Table presents Granddaddy’s Watch; a portrayal of the drama and trauma that divided families during our Civil War.  America has changed; the play reflects the ideals and morals of America, during the American Civil War. We were a different people in 1864, and our moral compass regarding minorities, as well as women, was in conflict with a more closed-minded society. We endeavor to capture the “feel” of this time, using two fictional characters, a West Point graduate and Union Colonel, and his captured sister who is sympathetic to the Southern cause and who was risking her life to help Confederate soldiers survive the ravages of the Civil War. The portrayal is what American values were, not what they are today. The material does not reflect the actors’ views, nor the staff or owners of the Buttonwillow Civil War Theater or theTennessee Valley Civil War Round Table. It is instead an artistic portrayal of a different reality done to teach by examining the reality of that time and illustrate what happened and why.
