Durango & Telluride Fall Colors 2023

 October 1-6, 2023  •  Durango, CO

(Ignore the dates at left - the dates above are correct!)

Fall in southwestern Colorado is a place of rare beauty as the aspens turn from green to shimmering gold and Telluride is the best place we’ve even seen for these beautiful colors. But before we head up to Telluride and Montrose, we plan to start our week off with the incredible Durango & Silverton Train. Spouses and partners are welcome to join us at no extra charge (except for the optional Durango Train ticket) so there is no need to register non-photographer guests!

After spending Saturday and Sunday night in Durango, we’ll head over to Telluride. Imagine a beautiful western town in a box canyon surrounded on three sides by towering mountains. There are three “fourteeners” (14,000+ ft. mountains) including Mt. Wilson, Wilson Peak and Mount Sneffles along with a grouping equally majestic peaks featuring the beautiful Ajax Peak right at the end of Telluride’s main street.

We’ll photograph around the many beautiful viewpoints around Telluride as we spend two nights in the region. Our tour will include a visit to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison - a national park with an awesome 2,000 foot drop into the canyon and river below. We will also visit the Dallas Divide on the way to Ouray, CO - named the “Switzerland of the America”. We’ll photograph the scenery and perhaps take in the waterfall hidden in a canyon. An the way south back to Durango, we’ll stop along the way as we cross the Molas Pass at 11,000 feet and bask in the beauty of this scenic countryside.

On Friday we’ll have a breakfast wrap-up meeting and check out as we head out having enjoyed a spectacular week of scenery and photography. Transportation, Food and Lodging are not included. We are not sure of the details for the train yet, but we will let you know as soon as the train is scheduled.

Joe's primary goal for this week is to concentrate on creating the best compositions possible so that everyone can have a week of capturing great photographs. Personal attention is key and field instruction provides for leisurely discussion about the photography opportunities  at each location we stop at. The trip is limited to eight photographers, but spouses/partners are welcome to join us at no extra charge - send us any questions you might have!
