Kata gives members of an organization a powerful way to navigate uncertainty, develop solutions and achieve goals.  Kata may be a term familiar to those practicing martial arts, where it refers to familiarity with habits or routines that form "muscle memory."  In the Toyota Production System, Kata is used to establish a disciplined means for improving, adapting and innovating by providing a systematic, standard routine.  For all of us, it is a teachable pattern for working logically towards objectives in complex systems.
