Joseph and His Brothers: The Question of Forgiveness

Dr. Lurie's presentation on "Joseph and His Brothers: The Question of Forgiveness" will use the story of Joseph as a springboard for a psychodynamic consideration of forgiveness. Joseph's encounter with his brothers in Egypt is a scene of reconciliation that is fraught with tensions. As such it offers a penetrating account of the complex intra-psychic dynamics that are entailed in the process of forgiveness.

Special attention will be given to questions such as: What are the limits of forgiveness? To what extent is Joseph capable of metabolizing his past traumatic experiences? What is the role of the brother’s acknowledgment of their crime?
