Recent research has suggested no effect of day care on attachment security even though the opposite was implied by many writers in the past.  There is also much evidence to support that understanding attachment, fostering secure attachment, and addressing insecure attachments in the day care settings can be extremely useful.


PRESENTER: Ann Smolen, PhD

Ann Smolen, PhD, is a training and supervising analyst in child, adolescent, and adult psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. Dr. Smolen has won several national awards for her clinical work, which she has presented both nationally and internationally. Dr. Smolen has published several articles including ‘Boys Only! No Mothers Allowed’ published in The International Journal of Psychoanalysis. Dr. Smolen is the author of Mothering Without a Home: Representations of Attachments Behaviors in Homeless Mothers and Children (Aronson, 2013), and Six Children: The Spectrum of Child Psychopathology and Its Treatment (Karnac, 2015). She maintains a private practice in child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Ardmore, PA.
