A young child’s symptoms initiate a play therapy intervention. The richness of the play reveals multiple dimensions, depending in part, on the theoretical structure held in mind by the clinician who is playing with the child and meeting with the parents. This presentation will discuss a vignette of play (essentially freezing the frame) to unpack the multiplicity of meanings played with. Expanding from this discussion will be to links made to “outside” (external world of the child) from the “inside” in child development and therapy. This presentation will elaborate on the therapeutic action in child relational psychotherapy.
