WORKSHOP by Barbara A. Boldt

"Keys to Effective International Negotiations"

May 13, 2016                      Workshop fee: $ 495 per person
8:30am - 1:00pm
Troy, Michigan

In today’s globalized and hyper competitive business world, managers in companies large and small interact and engage with people from all over the world, often without ever leaving their desks. In order to build key business relationships, manage multicultural projects and make the deals that will take your business to the next level, you must have the knowledge, skills and awareness to negotiate with people from many different countries and cultures.

In this half-day workshop we will introduce you to the exciting and challenging world of negotiating internationally. You will learn how differences in cultural values impact the way people from different cultures think about and approach the process of negotiation. You will gain insights into your own negotiation style and understand the strengths and weaknesses of that style in the global context. You will come away with several key strategies and tools that will help you to better prepare for and enact negotiations with international counterparts and partners.

WORKSHOP LEARNING GOALS

At the end of this Workshop you will be able to:

  • Explain how cultural values influence your own and others’ assumptions and beliefs about the process of negotiation.
  • Describe the characteristics of two distinct approaches to negotiation and to recognize in which situations and in which cultures the two approaches are most likely to be appropriate.
  • Identify your preferred style of negotiating and to become aware of where it fits in relation to the two main approaches to negotiation that we discussed.
  • Explain how some specific cultural differences related to relationships, time, and communication style impact the negotiation process and negotiator behavior.
  • Discuss key factors that should be taken into account when preparing for an international negotiation.
