Living on the Edge:

A Poverty Simulation

Have you ever wondered what life is like for the Calgarians who live in poverty today, the children who go to school hungry or the 3,000 kids who do not complete school on time every year?

Living on the Edge: A Poverty Simulation will help you understand what it might be like to survive day-to-day as a low-income family. You’ll be assigned a role as a Service Provider or a Family Member. You’ll then “live” through four 15 minute weeks (one month) with the challenges and stresses that real Calgarians face, interacting with human service agencies, grocers, pawnbrokers, bill collectors, job interviewers, police officers and others.

After the month is over, our facilitator will conduct a debrief session inviting participants to discuss their experience and then close with information on poverty in Calgary.

Space is limited, advanced registration is required by Thursday, August 20th.

We do not recommend this activity for minors, and request that all participants be a minimum of 14 years old.
