ABOUT THIS EVENT:
This is the third in a series of Culture Panel Discussions featuring a variety of theatre programs sharing their successful methods for thriving in these troubling times.
This panel features representatives from professional, community, and educational theatre, panelists will share their methods for addressing critical issues that performing artists have faced this past year.
Culture Panelists from across the state will be discussing their organizations' responses, plans, and actions that have unfolded from experiences of the last 12 months with special focus on COVID19 and BLM. This discussion will explore plans they have for the year to come as they continue to serve their audiences and communities.
From this panel, the hope is that you'll:
- Learn from others' experiences and plans to discover ways to better serve your own community
- Connect with theatre educators and practitioners from across the state to discover ideas & support as you move through 2021
- Cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the different cultures & experiences from across the state

POSTPONED EVENT:
POSTPONED UNTIL FALL 2021
Sponsored by the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Culture Committee of the Illinois Theatre Association
As we see our membership and community process and grieve the recent murders of Adam Toledo, Daunte Wright, the Fedex Mass Shooting in Indianapolis claiming 8 lives including many from the Sikh community, the recent assault of Jazzpher Evans in Quincy, IL and continuation of emotional stress due to the Derrick Chauvin trial that finally reached a verdict yesterday, we've decided it’s best to give our community space to both mourn these newest deaths and rest.
Thus, we’re postponing the Culture Panel that was scheduled for April 22 at 7pm until Fall 2021.
These events are affecting all theatre practitioners in Illinois and the United States, and we need to collaborate and work together to address and solve these issues. The Illinois Theatre Association is committed to giving the space to have these discussions. However, we do not believe that the structure of the panel planned for this week would have been conducive to the type of space that the community needs given the most recent events.
What happens next? The ITA's DEI and Culture committee will:
- rework the event and bring the panels back in the Fall to continue the ITA's goal of encouraging a closer understanding between all types of theatre and the diverse nature of Illinois theatre.
- set a new Fall date for the panel.
We look forward to discussing how theatres and organizations continue to carry out missions, goals, and promises made as we come out of the pandemic in the coming months.
Additionally, if you have questions, suggestions, or feedback, please share those or request a chat with with the ITA DEI & Culture committee at culture@illinoistheatre.org as we want to best support you, our membership, and the community at large as we navigate through this together.
