SCORE Boston Workshop:

Understanding Capitalization Tables

As a startup grows and progresses through various rounds of funding, the founders’ and investors’ percentages of ownership and the value of their equity change, sometimes in complex ways. Capitalization tables record the percentage of ownership, equity dilution, and value of equity in each round of investment, and are widely used to model events related to funding a company.

This workshop traces what happens as a hypothetical startup moves through the stages from friends-and-family funding, through Angel and VC investments, to an eventual IPO, and shows how the changes are recorded in the capitalization table. Join us for a solid understanding of the basics behind this sometimes complicated tool.

This free workshop is co-sponsored by the Boston Chapter of SCORE and the Venture Cafe, and presented by SCORE mentor Tasnia Huque.

Tasnia Huque is on the investment team at Cue Ball Capital, an early stage venture capital firm, and is responsible for deal origination, transaction execution and portfolio management. Prior to Cue Ball, Tasnia worked at Barclays in the Investment Banking Division, where she primarily worked on behalf of private equity clients spanning several industry verticals. She also spent some time with the institutional investments team at Alliance Bernstein. Tasnia graduated from Bates College Phi Beta Kappa & Magna Cum Laude with degrees in Mathematics and Economics.
