MET OPERA CLASS: 2 FAMOUS DIVAS

In place of his usual talks on the Met Opera simulcasts (now alas postponed indefinitely), Greg has chosen to talk to us about two of opera's all time great sopranos - the American Leontyne Price and the Australian Joan Sutherland, who both made their Met debuts 60 years ago, in 1961. Their respective lives and careers are very interesting and there is a great deal of visual documentation which Greg will share with us. Some of you may remember a fascinating program on PBS some time ago about Lincoln Center in New York (and the Met in particular) which featured Leontyne Price quite extensively. This should be another memorable class with one of ALL's favorite speakers Greg Berg.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: Professor Berg is on the music faculty at Carthage College in Kenosha, where he teaches voice and directs the opera productions. He is also Minister of Music at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine and has been the Morning Show host on WGTD FM 91.1 since 1986. Greg is also a frequent soloist with the Racine and Kenosha Symphony Orchestras. In 1982 he graduated from Luther College-Decorah, Iowa with a double major in music and religion, and then earned his M.A. in Vocal Performance from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
