Anyone remotely familiar with ancient Egypt has an idea that cats anddogs played a prominent role within their faith. In this presentation theorigins of these animals as articles of faith and devotion will beexplored in depth. Why were these creatures deified and how didtheir respective cults flourish throughout the dynastic times? Thisdiscussion will focus on the idea of “Man’s best friend” and cats beinggods in a religious practice that elevated nature as one of its principalfoci. KV-63 was discovered in 2006 by Dr. Otto Schaden, the mission director of the Amenmesse Project and one of the most prolific modern excavators in the Valley. Peter is also a team member on the current KV-10 excavations working with Dr. Salima Ikram, the new mission director since Dr. Schaden’s passing in 2015.
