9/15/17 The Lincoln Nobody Knows

Lincoln was a man who wanted to be remembered, but did notwish to be known; he was considered by his closest friends andassociates to be one of the most closed-mouthed men they had everknown. Rarely, if ever, did he speak of his lineage, parentage, familyand early life, faith, or romantic relationships. He was mystery tomost people, only occasionally giving his listeners insights about hispersonal life and beliefs. This class identifies a few areas of his lifethat continue to baffle historians and encourage speculation.

Our instructor for this class, Steven Rogstad, is a graduate of the University ofWisconsin-Parkside and has studied the life of Abraham Lincoln since he was ayoung boy. He has taught seminars and courses on Lincoln at UW-Parkside, atCarroll University as part of the institution’s Civil War Enrichment Program, and atthe Civil War Museum in Kenosha. He established the Lincoln MonumentRestoration Project, which restored (and in 1999 rededicated) the Lincoln Statue inRacine. He is the author of numerous reviews and articles related to his own LincolnResearch. In April 2008 Mr. Rogstad was appointed by Governor James Doyle to theWisconsin Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, on which Rogstad serves as Secretary.
