The Future is Now - BIM

Building Information Modeling (BIM) What Electrical Contractors Need to Know - Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically BIM uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. BIM is a process that goes far beyond switching to new software; it requires changes to the definition of traditional architectural/engineering phases and more data sharing than is common during the design and construction stages. Electrical contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors are often short-changed during the MEP coordination process due to their under-utilization of technology, such as BIM, which can be used to assist them in performing pre-planning and pre-fabrication. Survey results will be presented showing the current status of BIM during electrical design and construction, and legal issues relevant to all parties. Market sectors, design and clash detection software, cost and time saving of BIM will be discussed.
